When you think about high-production printing, most professionals imagine toner, heat, and warm-up times. Riso Ibérica, exhibitor at the next edition of C!Print Madrid, from January 12 to 14, 2027 At IFEMA, it has spent two decades demonstrating that there is another way: technology Forcejet, a cold inkjet system developed and patented by the Japanese company, which has marked a turning point in high-volume printing.
What exactly is Forcejet?
Forcejet is a printing system based on fixed, in-line inkjet printheads that print in full color in a single pass. Unlike traditional toner technologies—which require heat to fuse the ink to the paper—Forcejet uses a fast-drying, vegetable-based ink, completely eliminating the need for heat in the printing process.
The result is a cold and flat paper output, which in practice makes subsequent handling much easier: stapling, folding, enveloping or any finishing that comes after printing is simpler and more precise when the sheets do not come out of the machine curled or hot.
Speed without sacrificing reliability
One of Forcejet's most compelling arguments is speed: machines incorporating this technology reach speeds of up to 160-165 A4 pages per minute, well above the market average in its category. But speed doesn't compromise reliability—the fixed printhead system, combined with a stable and flat paper feed, significantly reduces the risk of technical issues compared to systems with more complex moving parts.
Furthermore, Riso emphasizes that print quality remains consistent throughout the printer's lifespan, without the progressive wear and tear experienced by other technologies after millions of prints. This allows for printing on various media types—recycled paper, carbonless paper, envelopes, laid paper—and paper weights up to 400g, something that is difficult with conventional toner systems.
The argument that carries the most weight: energy savings
In a context where the cost of electricity is a constant concern for any printing company or production department, Forcejet has a particularly attractive argument: by not requiring fusing or heat drying, its energy consumption is significantly lower than that of equivalent toner technologies. Riso puts this reduction at around 74% compared to a conventional toner copier with a speed of 55 pages per minute.
In addition, there is a cleaner working environment: by eliminating the thermal fusion process, the equipment does not emit the particles or substances associated with toner printing, nor does it generate the high temperatures typical of other systems.
Two decades of constant evolution
2025 marked the 20th anniversary of the launch of Riso's inkjet technology, a milestone that reflects how the same technological principle has been adapted to the needs of very different sectors: educational institutions, professional printers, businesses, and public administrations. Today, Riso has a presence in more than 150 countries and a customer base that includes over 200,000 educational institutions worldwide.
For whom does it make sense?
Forcejet is particularly well-suited to environments that need to print large volumes on demand without incurring the maintenance and operating costs of traditional technologies: invoicing, direct mail, transactional documentation, variable communication, and high-volume printing jobs in general — precisely the area where the series ComColor and Valezus Riso's have found their niche in the market.
