" Paper, in our opinion, has a long way to go ."
In this first interview in the new series "Graphic and Creative Encounters" in the world of printing, visual communication, and personalization, C!Print Madrid will be speaking with various companies in the sector that stand out for their vision, creativity, and innovation. This time, we spoke with Daniel Matoses, Printing Specialist and part of the team atImpresum, a friendly and professional printing company with more than 25 years of experience located in Valencia: " Impresum is a family business that is part traditional printing company and part e-commerce, offering support that goes beyond the usual supplier-client contact.
How many people make up the Impresum team? What are your profiles?
We're currently ten people. We're a small team focused on finding the best way to do things right. There are diverse profiles and we're very versatile, but Ana and I basically cover customer service, along with Mercedes, Fran, and Fede, who also cover pre-press and shipping jobs to both offset and digital. Sandra covers the administrative side, Juan and Juanvi handle finishing, Javi handles the offset press, and Pau oversees post-press and prepares shipments to customers.
What is your work methodology?
We have a strong commitment to a job well done, which has allowed us to collaborate with great professionals. We place great importance on the process and listening to our clients, recommending papers, inks, and finishes to ensure each project is unique. We also place great importance on social values and a commitment to professional development, which are part of our culture. We strive to promote healthy and flexible work environments for our people.
Tell us about two of the projects you've been most excited to work on, and why.
It's very difficult to choose just two projects because we've collaborated with such great professionals over the years. But if I have to choose, I'd stick with relatively recent ones: 'Beauty of a Tragedy,' the compilation of muralist Hyuro's work , a deeply emotionally charged book that, in both its editing, design, and finish, sought to avoid posthumous homage and highlight the importance of her as an artist. The second would be the 'Paperside Bookshop Guide,' a guide that highlights paper and independent publishing .

What is Colla Paper?
It's a parallel project to our printing company to champion the use of paper. We shared the idea with a design studio, Estándar, and the result is a union that results in paper. We provide the printing and logistics, and in line with our philosophy as a printing company, we continue to be committed to sustainable materials and rational design in the manufacture of paper products. In short, it's a celebration of a time when traditional desktop tools ( calendars, diaries, notebooks, notepads , stickers , etc. ) endure and connect creators to their processes.
How do you implement automation in your daily work?
As I mentioned, we're a printing company, largely online, so we inevitably use tools that allow us to streamline our processes. We use the Kanban method for production management and some other quite innovative tools for managing and communicating with clients.
What printing technologies do you use to create your projects?
We use offset and digital dry toner flat sheet and inkjet printing for plotters.
How does Impresum envision the future of printing?
Paper, in our opinion, has a long way to go. Our future is linked to a strong concern for the environment. We print all offset projects with vegetable-based inks and offer a wide range of FSC-certified or 100% recycled papers, while minimizing waste during the printing process. Furthermore, since installing solar panels, we've expanded our surface area to a total of 150 square meters of photovoltaic energy, providing us with 30 kW of electricity. This means that around 80% of the energy we consume comes from clean sources. This means that for several hours a day, our printing press is powered exclusively by 100% renewable energy generated on our own roof. Our goal is to achieve 100% self-consumption.

You actively participated in the C!Print Madrid conference program. Why is it important for professionals to visit the fair? What would you personally highlight from your visit?
You have to always be open and attentive to all the industry trade shows, workshops, and meetings, as well as magazines. You always find ideas or colleagues who can help you with new paths or simply to see other ways of doing things. For me, it's enriching just to stroll through the trade show; you never know where you'll find a surprise or that supplier you've been looking for.
